November 26, 2024
On November 5th, 野花社区鈥 Learning & Knowledge Management team hosted a compelling Knowledge Corner session featuring our CEO and President, Latanya Mapp. The conversation delved into her book, , her journey, and her philosophy of philanthropy, sparking inspiration and reflection among attendees.
Latanya shared the powerful story behind The Everyday Feminist, a project born during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing from her life experiences and time at the Global Fund for Women, she explored the narratives of women advocates who tirelessly drive social change in their communities. With her son鈥檚 involvement and the support of influential women like Mary Robinson and Hillary Castillo, the book captures the courage and impact of these often-unsung Everyday Feminists.
Central to the discussion was Latanya鈥檚 admiration for women who work at the grassroots level to create meaningful change, often without fanfare or recognition. She emphasized the importance of RPA鈥檚 mission to build a better and more just world, urging attendees to trust the shared commitment to this transformative work.
Latanya shared her unique approach to philanthropy, rooted in centering people鈥攃hange-makers and those impacted by systemic inequities. She stressed that truly transformative change happens when leadership and philanthropy empower those on the front lines of advocacy.
She also underscored the importance of engaging men and boys in social justice for women. 鈥淭his work is not just for women,鈥 she noted, explaining that empowering women ultimately benefits everyone. Her remarks reinforced the need for inclusive, community-centered approaches in gender-focused social movements.
Citing the resilience of leaders like Tarana Burke, founder of the Me-Too movement, Latanya highlighted the power of collective action and the enduring fight for gender equality, even in the face of setbacks.
The discussion also tackled timely challenges, and Latanya called for bold philanthropy to address the gaps this decision creates, urging funders to step up and support marginalized communities.
Reflecting on Latanya鈥檚 insights, her message is clear: transformative philanthropy requires courage, collaboration, and a commitment to centering those leading the charge for social change. Let鈥檚 carry that spirit forward into our work together.
Words to remember: Step in. Show up. Listen to solve. Continue the fight even if laws are passed. Be bold!
